2023 Los Alamos-Artesia Quarterfinal Game History The Artesia Bulldogs will be going for their 100th playoff win against the Los Alamos Hilltoppers in a quarterfinal matchup. This will be only the second time the two teams have met, the first being a 2006 semifinal game in Los Alamos which the Bulldogs won 34-15. Los Alamos High School was opened in 1946 after WWII and the Manhattan Project ended. Since playoffs started in New Mexico in 1953, Los Alamos is 7-18 overall with one state championship in Class A in 1966, a 21-0 win over Gadsden. The Hilltoppers first round win against Highland 55-13 was their first playoff win since 2000 when they beat Silver 9-7. Los Alamos has wins this year against Espanola Valley (35-0), Taos (40-0), Capital (23-20), St. Michael's (28-7), Pojoaque Valley (45-7), Bernalillo (26-19), Manzano (48-9), Del Norte (54-0) and Highland (55-13); their losses were to Albuquerque Academy (14-6) and Valley (26-23). The Bulldogs will be playing their 124th playoff game and 40th quarterfinal game. In the 70 years of playoffs in New Mexico, Artesia has lost only five playoff games at home, all of those coming at Bulldog Bowl. Artesia Bulldogs Playoff Record Home Quarterfinal Games: 26-2-1 (89.7% winning percentage) (Losses: 1986 Ruidoso (24-21), 2012 Aztec (61-55 OT); Tie: 1976 Abq. Academy (14-14) (advanced on penetrations) Quarterfinal Games: 32-6-1 (82.1% winning percentage) Home Playoff Games: 61-5-1 (91% winning percentage) (Losses: 1985 Grants (2OT), 1986 Ruidoso, 1991 Goddard (State), 1999 St. Pius (State), 2012 Aztec (OT) Overall Playoff Games: 99-22-2 (80.5% winning percentage)

Los Alamos looked decent against a bad Highland team. Skill position’s (WR’s / DB’s) weren’t small and #14 definitely looked fast… and athletic. Bigger team than I expected. Good size at the RB and LB position. Wide open offense with a versatile QB. I know they played a ridiculous easy schedule, but statistically their numbers are similar to what I can find with our offense. Can’t really find anything accurate on the Artesia offensive stats this year (probably because it’s definitely a down year). But what I see, it looks like their QB has similar numbers as Estrada, and their big RB has comparable yardage to Galindo. Looks like they are athletic enough to be a team on the rise. Fortunately for us, they haven’t played anyone to prepare them for a team like us.

Itvwill be a good test for the Bulldogs to see if they’re emotionally mentally ready for the playoffs. Look what happened to the Chief s last week at Denver, you have to rise up every one pf these last 3 games, exactly the sentiments I shared with my son Josiah, I ltold him it’s up to you what you make of the remainder of your senior year. I told him do it for no one else than you, your teamates and your coaches, no one else matters in my book.

Runs like a 10.53 in the 100. The team looked Good Friday night but it’s really hard to tell how good they are plying Highland.

Added playoff info and bracket to top post.
One thing I haven't seen mentioned looks like Hilltoppers play both ways, that will be tough on them Saturday to keep pace.

No two way players, is always a big advantage for the Bulldogs. However I wouldn’t mind seeing a few more packages with our studs on both sides. I remember Coach Maupin saying he wasn’t completely opposed to a two way player if it could help us win. But if it’s not happening this year- I just don’t see it happening. Ricky is one of the most physically dominant players I’ve seen on the offensive line- You would think he could be a force in the D-Line as well in certain situations. I also think our DB’s are collectively as good as we’ve ever had. Hammond and Rascon are lock down corners with great ball skills. And I feel a weakness of ours on the offense is “going to get” the football in the air. I would think those two could help in that regard. But it’s probably too late for too many alterations…..

So will we be able to buy tickets at the gate for this game, or online only? And will ksvptv.com be allowed to stream the game? I know that for the State game those restrictions apply, but can't remember if it's for ALL playoff games......or just the State game. Anybody know?

I remember last year KSVP was able to stream the Quarter Finals game against Valley, and Deming’s streaming service is who did the Semi’s with KSVP doing the audio only for that game. I’m hoping with all 3 games being at the Bowl that KSVP will get the rights to all of them.

Well he had Ricky on the jumbo package with the ball in hand he got the ball in the end zone but then whatever happened there, still not sure if he gets to play this one or not. I love watching him play, he reminds me of my good friend in school Jose Martinez rip, the best RT I've seen, he loved to play hoops too just as Ricky plays, not sure how Ricky does in the weight room, Jose worked hard in the weight room but he didn't have too honestly if he didn't want to, most of it was God given. Ricky lost his mom to cancer not long ago, I'm sure that's devastating, he seems to play with a lot of emotion, just got to harness that. I wish the best for this young man, we are not blessed with many players of his caliber and size very often. We lost him in the 2nd half of the Roswell game too concussion I think, I wouldn't mind seeing him meet the Roswell RB in the trenches

Manny puts the ball into harms way, 1 pick, should have been 2 that I've seen.
Roswell rolling regardless
Best part of their team is that defense, they are hard to score on.
