It was very difficult for me to start this topic! Mainly because I don't want to step on any toes, Proview, KSVP, or whoever! I want to start out by saying that I really do appreciate the internet stream, because it makes it possible for those who live out of town, out of state, AND out of the COUNTRY to watch Bulldog football games online. If not for the internet feed then those people would be left out in the cold.
But, I was looking at the pics of last night's game that Rapid posted and one thing really struck me. Just by looking at Rapid's pics it is apparent that attendance is really suffering. I think we probably know the reason for this.
Having said that, I will be the first to admit that I am among the guilty. That is not a fact that I am proud of, believe me! Up until just last year I had not missed a Bulldog home game it probably 10-12 years. Last year I only went to 2 home games. Before that I had been to every single Bulldog home game since probably 1998 or so. But I discovered that it is just so much easier to sit in my living room and watch the Bulldogs on my computer. And I must say that the quality of the internet stream is impeccable for the most part. It's like sitting home and watching the Dallas Cowboys on the tube. The bottom line is that the internet stream has made me very lazy, once again not something that I am proud of.
And I know for a fact that I am not the only one. I have talked to many Bulldog fans, and trust me I know a lot of them having lived here for almost 50 years, and they pretty much tell me the same thing. They are opting to stay at home and watch the games online. Oh, I mentioned that last year I only went to 2 home games. Well, guess how many home games I went to THIS year. The answer is ZERO! Oh, I saw most of the Bulldog home games, just not at the stadium. And yes, I still live right here in Artesia. In fact, I can walk from my house to Bulldog Bowl in about 20 minutes.
So is it KSVP's fault that I have not been going to games at Bulldog Bowl recently? Hardly! I would place the blame on that at 10% internet stream, and 90% of the blame goes on me! I guess last year it was actually 4 games if you include the playoffs and the title game against Aztec. But ZERO games at Bulldog Bowl for me THIS year. Again, not the radio station's (or proview's) fault. That is all on me! The provider of the game stream is only an "enabler"!
The games that I DID attend last year I noticed that the attendance was horrible. Nothing like it was just a few years ago!
Not trying to blame the providers of the feed for my laziness, or for the laziness of anybody else, but I think it may be time to ask some serious questions. Are there any other options out there? Maybe black out the stream to local internet users while still providing it to out of town users? Maybe stream only the out of town games? I don't know if that is even possible, just asking. But I do know one thing, I am making a vow to myself starting NEXT year that I am going to get up out of my computer chair and actually GO to Bulldog Bowl for home games. What really makes me SAD is to think about how much I looked forward to football season this year, and then when it got here I didn't even go to a single game! But even if I start going to the games again, how many others will do the same? Maybe it's time to start considering some alternatives. I don't know if G.D. at KSVP reads this forum, but if he does I would just like to say that I for one appreciate all that he does! He has helped bring
Bulldog football to the WORLD! Just as you have Randall! It's just that I think it may be time for some changes. And I DO intend to make it to more games next year......if I live that long, lol. Thanks for letting me vent!
