Just a link to a thread that I started on one of the Sooner boards a few minutes ago. Written from the perspective that today may have very well been Landry's last home game in Norman. Just wanted to share it. Of course, if he returns for one more year then I may have to re-post this next year, lol.............. www.landthieves.com/board/showthread.php?20187-It-Just-Hit-Me!

It does seem like last week when I was visiting southern Oklahoma to go fishing / picnicking with the folks and heard Landry being interviewed on statewide radio about his commitment to OU. This was on the last Friday of March, 2007.
I also saw his first career start (vs. Idaho State in the rain, Sept. 12, 2009) and his epic performance against Stanford at the Sun Bowl.
I also remain forever grateful that Landry was too smart to listen to the suggestion on local radio (the Saturday morning "Prep Sports Weekly" on 610AM), when Jon Salazar of KOAT-TV gushed over how great he'd look running the "Air Raid" offense at NMSU. With apologies to NMSU alums on this board, that would have been a severe waste of talent (and, the "Air Raid" was gone by his redshirt freshman year anyway).

Yes, I remember hearing about that. I guess the "Air Raid" offense now resides at McMurry University in Abilene TX, my alma mater. That is where Hal Mumme is coaching now. Hal Mumme and his McMurry Warhawks finished up their season with a 9-3 record..... www.mcmurrysports.com/schedule.aspx?path=footballThey lost their very first game 82-6 (not a typo!) to Stephen F. Austin. They lost yesterday to Mary Hardin-Baylor. But still finished up 9-3 overall.

I have received 2 PMs this morning from people telling me that they could not get the link to work. One of them asked me if I would post the text of what I wrote on the OU message board, just the text of my original post that started the thread. I had trouble getting on the site earlier this morning as well, but the link seems to be working just fine right now. The site may have been down for a while, but seems to working now. So you should be able to see the entire thread by clicking the link that I posted at the top of the thread. But just in case....and as requested......here is the text from my post that started the thread on Landthieves................
It Just Hit Me!
I don't mean that it just now occurred to me. I mean that it is just now starting to sink in. Very possible that today was the last time for LJ to step on the turf at Memorial Stadium in Norman.
Not saying whether he should declare and be gone after this season, or whether he should stay. Also not speculating on whether he WILL leave, or return. Not what this thread is about!!!!!
I guess this thread is just about the POSSIBILITY that today was his last game in Norman, and how that makes me feel. I am from Landry's home town of Artesia NM........small town......10,000 population.......everybody knows everybody. I remember how proud I was the day that Landry gave his verbal to OU. Hell, everybody here in Artesia was proud! I have known Landry personally and have watched him play since he was in junior high. But that's nothing special......heck, half the people that live here in Artesia can say the same thing. LJ was one of our own! He was the first kid from here to sign with a big-time program, AND at a high profile position to boot! Oh, we have had O-linemen sign with schools like ENMU, NMSU, and UNM. We have a starting LB at UNM right now. We have had multiple kids from Artesia end up at West Texas A&M. A few (2 or 3) ended up playing football at Wyoming back in the 1970s. We even had one end up playing DB at Boise State way back when Boise was nothing. And don't get me wrong, we support ALL of our kids no matter where they go to school. But Landry was the first high profile recruit from Artesia to hit the "BIG TIME". Artesia High School is no Union or Jenks, so it really was a big deal for us. I still go to high school games here, and even though LJ graduated from school here in 2008 I still see kids (and adults) wearing LJ jerseys at our high school games. Half the people in town are talking about the Sooners game in church on Sunday mornings. We never really had a Sooner fan base here in Artesia until LJ came along. That has changed!
Just thinking about how HUGE of a deal it was to everybody here in Artesia when LJ came along and ended up at OU. And now, thinking about how this COULD have very well been his last game in Norman, it just leave me wondering where the time went. Just want to go on record as saying that I hope he does return for another year. But whether he does...or not....he has made all of us here in Artesia very proud. Knowing him as well as I do, and also wanting him to succeed as much as I did, it was very difficult reading these boards at times after he had a bad game. Sometimes I just had to stay away. But overall, for those of us here in Artesia it was a hell of a ride. Like I said, I hope he comes back for one more year, but just in case he doesn't.......thanks for the memories! I wish him the best no matter what he decides to do from here on out. Hope to see him back in the crimson and cream next year!
