According to the guys at The Red Menace the former Goddard QB will be walking on at UNM. mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=203&f=2466&t=8583972I am not a Lobo fan, but I am happy to see David get a chance to play D-1 ball after spending a few years at NMMI.

I wouldn't be shocked at all if he is the starter at the beginning of the year.
The new coach has done well too, he's landed 2 of the state's top quarterbacks.

I only saw David play 1 time in HS, Goddard clobbered RRHS so dont remember much of his passing since they ran thru the Rams. I have a stepson who in an official in Mesa AZ who does JC games when they play in his area and he wasnt that impressed with him. I hope he does well for the Lobos until Cole takes over. its hard to judge guys off reports from TRM, they think everybody who signs with UNM will be an all star.

Boy, you sure get spoiled by HD video. That video is tough to see but Vega is obviously a great player. Hope he does well at my alma mater.

Mikemoe, unless you followed RR to the Wool Bowl in 2008, you never watched David play vs RR. David did not play in the 2009 game at RR, the Goddard QB was back up Jeremy Burrola, and in the 2010 game at RR the QB was Ryan Greene. 2008 Goddard vs RR highlights forward to 2:26 mark, you'll see some passing. I watched most of NMMI's games the past two seasons. The officiating was not impressive at all. Especially those crews from AZ.

Yeah well, your stepson is a part of the worst officiating crew in the United States. Every WSFL official should be fired and the players should regulate themselves. As for Vega, he played Mesa twice during his career and beat them 48-20 and 55-23, throwing for over 600 yards and 8 total touchdowns. He also lit up Rio Rancho for 50 + points throwing the ball all over the field back in the day. Whatever Mikemoe and his stepson are drinking I want some of it NOW.

Another "boo hoo nobody recruited my son and therefore I have to attempt to denigrate everyone else" thread by Mike Moe, his specialty. The Artesia fans certainly respect Vega and so does everyone else that faced him at either Goddard or NMMI.
I don't know about anyone else but I am really feeling the void in my life without any updates on Alfred U. Every week Southeast New Mexico sits on the edge of its collective seat waiting for the update on Alfred U from Mike Moe as well as some good old Rocky Long bashing or a thread downgrading a player that has destroyed his Rio Rancho squad at some time in the past. The All-time most irrelevant poster award goes to............mikemoe1 (applause).

I watch David Vega when he was in HS he was tough QB and a good passer and he sure can run with the ball. The Bulldogs had a hard time stopping him. Good luck Vega

Thanks rock 9172, I really wasnt sure if I did or not, I probably was thinking about Anaya running thru the Rams. I asked my stepson if he ever did a NMMI game. I said "they have a QB who UNM is looking at, I heard he is pretty good and David said he didnt think he was that good. I never said he wasnt, just trying to give an outside perspective.
I wont give any more Alfred U updates, only gave 2 this year. My son didnt qualify with his grades so its his fault, he also got hurt his snior year. Just pure football ability he should have played in college somewhere, Chris Williams mother agrees with that.
You guys are blowing this all out of proportion, i hope Mr Vega has a successful career with UNM and is followed by Cole Gautsche. As much as I dont like the Lobos I do support NM high school players, I think if Dallas Bollema stays healthy he eventually has a shot at the NFL.

We are all a little on the defensive with Vega after trying to prove his worth to all the red menace posters for years, kind of like beating one's head against the wall. Good luck to all the NM recruits that have made commitments to play college football this fall.

Ease up on my boy mike lol, no he isn't a lobo fan but he's a good guy I've talked to him for years, i'm on his christmas card list , sent a couple nice knitted hats for my kids that his wife made. He just likes to talk football like the rest of us, a new yorker trying to make it in New Mexico ha ha. I do agree that most the fans on there seem giddie over everyone they sign, but I think Vega is the real deal. Never watched him at NMMI besides those clips but he brought the titles back to Goddard in 08 and 09 after a long dry spell, he lost to us in 07 but they put up like 35 points, just that Landry was unstoppable that day. I remember watching him play in a basketball game in artesia, the rowdy student section was trying to get in his head and Vega just looks over there and laughs at them, I thought that was neat. I think he could have easily followed his old coach and went to Eastern and be handed the starting job, that's just what I think, but I think he wants to prove himself at the d1 level. I think he's a talented kid and a good pickup for the lobos, he should contribute. and oh your welcome for the HD ha ha

A couple of things, I am banned from TRM but I do get on and read what they say. Havent lived in NY since I was 20 and I'll be 60 next June so consider myself a New Mexican. My wifes son refs JCs and high schools in the Pheonix area, is in charge of a crew and has done HS and college all star games (3) in the area so he must be doing something right. Now my wife cant say I didnt defend him. Anybody want any hats knitted for their children or scafves or baby blankets, Randall has both, send me a PM. Not trying to make any money just clear out my garage LOL!

I just hope he'll help draw in some fans, especially if he starts. ABQ is really a lousy college football town - the "cool kids" think they're too good to support even good Lobo teams most of the time. They'd rather buy sports memorabilia for loser, non-regional NFL teams more often than not. And the ones who do care often tend to blame the poor fan support on "transplants" like me. WRONG! (I'm a 15-year season ticket-holder, although I almost dumped them over Locksley).

Now that we are on the topic of In-State kids. How are all of our former Dogs doing at Eastern NM? Anyone have the scoop on the guys? Louie Reyes, Andy Lopez, and Josh Houghtaling?

I am pretty sure Louie is still playing for Eastern, but not sure how many seasons he has left.
As for Andy and Josh, they are both working extremely hard and looking forward to a new start with the new head coach, Coach Lynn and his staff. Both are extremely excited about the upcoming spring and next football season.

Thank you for the info. Its so nice to see these young men from our area go onto play ball at the next level. I wish the 3 young men at Eastern the best of luck and I hope they have great careers there. I hope the same for Vega at UNM as well. It seems like it was just yesterday that all of these guys were competing in heated rivalry games between Artesia and Goddard.

I think Channel 13 also had this news last night. UNM was able to utilize the Lottery Scholarship quite well on in-state kids who were preferred walk-ons. This should also curtail the negative talk about "not enough New Mexico kids," at least with those who have a clue.
