I just found this topic on PrepNewMexico.............. mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=402&f=1303&t=8596576I don't even know what to think about this. That is, if it is even true! I have looked all over and I can't find any verification anywhere. Schedules for 2012 don't seem to be out yet. But still, people are swearing up and down that it is going to happen. IF it is true...............going from one extreme to the other maybe? Maybe they are sick and tired of people bashing them for their weak schedule? Yeah, I know! They won it all this year. But still, this just seems to be total insanity. If true, they will be walking into a slaughter house and don't even know it. I heard they are losing a lot, suppose to be a rebuilding year. Lots of opinions being expressed over on PrepNM. Maybe somebody on here can get this verified? I can't find anything.

Well,it was first reported on NMPREPS by Kyle himself. And that Permian is taking care of everything.

I think they are making their schedule a little more stout, while we are making ours a little easier dropping manzano and El Paso for Del Norte and Valencia, although Valencia could be an upgrade over El Paso, but I hear Valencia lost a lot this year, and they lost a coach not sure if head coach or not so many changes I can't keep track.
Just my opinion but a tough schedule does absolutely nothing for you in seeding, probably works against you, but you are a little more battle tested for it and I think that helps come playoff time.
I think we got a good balanced schedule, still leaning towards the tough side of it.
It will be interesting to see how Aztec responds after finally winning the title, new head coach and playing some tougher opponents. West Texas isn't what it used to be but they still got some good athletes and big kids over there from what I've seen a few years ago, their line would dwarf a lot of teams from this area.

Agreed with Charliedog, win or lose, fighting the big kids only makes you tougher.
Unless you get an arm broke. Then you're screwed.

Have to agree, BUT, someone may get HURT bigtime! Wow, what 1 state championship in 50-60 years will do for ones ego! I want to find out (if it does happen) the date so I can get off work! Will they still have 35 point mercy rule or 50 point end of game? Charlie, isn't Aztec comparable to a 3-A school in Texas (as far as school size)?

Wow, what 1 state championship in 50-60 years will do for ones ego! That is exactly what I was thinking! One state title and they're ready to compete with the best in Texas. Well, Permian's not the best in Texas anymore, but you know what I mean. What I don't like about this is that this really has the potential to make NM high school football look REALLY bad. The total dismantling of a NM state champion by a Texas team will not help our image.

Not sure of Aztec's enrollment # but could be either a big 3A or small 4A. There is no mercy rule other than the Permian program is run by one of Coach Henderson's buddies, a man with similar character, Gary Gaines. Don't look for a 100 point shallacking other than if it's 42-0, understand that it could have been whatever they wanted it to be.

It is tentative, but rumor has it the Tigers will be playing Goddard this fall during regular season. Belen and an El Paso school are rumored as well. Hobbs, Alamogordo, and Portales dropped Goddard from schedule. Well, I have finally seen Permian's 2012 schedule, and guess what? Aztec ain't on it............ www.permianpanthersfootball.com/2012Varsity.htmlThis 2012 schedule has only been up on the Permian site for a couple of days at the most. I checked 2 or 3 days ago and it wasn't there. I have been checking all along. They had last years 2011 schedule with the scores, but not the 2012 schedule. I wonder who started this rumor? Was it somebody in the Aztec program? If so, that is truly pathetic. Regardless, I think it is absolutely hilarious!

This was not a rumor. Permian had a tentative schedule that included Aztec because they were not going to know the outcome of the realignment the UIL was going to hand down to it's district. There were questions about the Lubbock and Amarillo schools and how their enrollement would affect where they were going to be placed.
As of Wednesday when the realignment came out the Permian district I believe has 9 teams making it almost impossible for the Aztec game to happen.
Aztec will still play Manzano and La Cueva and it looks like they will also pick up Goddard.

Is it possible it's a scrimmage with Permian? Seems like even a scrimmage could be beneficial.
Anyway, we're always telling "Northern" teams they need to step up their schedules if they want to have a chance of beating "Southern" teams in the state game more often than every 10 years or so. Looks to me like Aztec is taking that to heart. Good for them. Only problem is ... they may now be a more consistent rival for the title.

Aztec has added El Paso Montwood to it's killer schedule. Should have a coach in the next few days.
