Just got done watching the game as I was in Alamo all day watching baseball. The second half was amazing! Drew Gordon dominated. I wore my Lobo gear and got hell from everyone for not wearing Bulldog gear but I had to support my Lobos! First place!

Maybe the Lobos can do something this year. I know that in 2010 they had their best team in recent memory. In 2010 they went into the NCAA tournament with a 29-4 record and very high expectations. They went in as a #3 seed. In the first round they struggled against #14 seed Montana and came away with a 5 point win. In the second round #11 seed Washington ate them alive 82-64. The entire Lobo fan base over at The Red Menace was on suicide watch. They were calling it the most devastating loss in the history of Lobo basketball.
I fully expect to see the Lobos make a very deep run in the tourney this year, elite 8 possibly. But it also wouldn't surprise me if they bowed out in the 1st or 2nd round. If they win their 2nd round game I may have to break out some of my Lobo gear that is hanging in the closet. Haven't worn it in so long I doubt if it fits anymore though, lol. Haven't worn it since Rocky left.

The teams I have watched in the recent history when it comes to the high profile tourneys' they seem to "choke". I hope they get deep into the tourney this year, which ever they go either to the NIT or The Big Dance.

They should be in the NCAA tourney without a doubt, they should win the Mountain West Conference title as well. The question is how far can they go? Be nice to see them at least make the sweet 16.

Lobos play for the Conference Tourney Championship today, the aggies play in their conference finals tomorrow. Lobos should be in either way, aggies will be there if they can win tomorrow. Both might be in the NCAA Tournament.

Aggies and Lobos win their conference tournament, both will make it to the NCAA Tournament. Hopefully one of them can at least win a couple rounds, both seem to be solid teams. We'll see who they draw later today.

I think it's pretty darn impressive when the state only has two D1 schools and they both make the big dance. Seems like it's been awhile since that happened. Was the last time in the 80s or the 90s or does it happen more often than I remember?

Thanx Randall!
I think I remember now. UNM lost their first game and NMSU was beaten by Michigan State in the first or second round. The Aggies put up a good fight against MSU but it just wasn't in the cards. It was more memorable because everyone expected MSU to crush NMSU. That may be why you remember NMSU and not UNM being in the tournament.

Thanks CrispysDad ... my memory ain't what it used to be.
I think it will be nice for Jeff Taylor to play in the Pit. Bet he gets a warm welcome.
Hope both teams do well and at least get past the first round. UNM is the better team (hence their seed) this year but I hope the Aggies are able to play a "scrappy" game and at least make sure Indiana has to work for the win.
Of course, a girl can always dream ...

Aggies were dominant intheir title game. I havent followed them that closely this year, was the 13th seed too low? Any opinions?
I give UNM credit, a lot of depth with good players, cant see them making it past 1 win, especiall if they end up playing Louisville.

I'm certainly not an expert, MikeMoe, but I think the 13th seed for NMSU is probably about right. I think you could make an argument to move us up a couple of spots but no more than that. Considering the competition played and a couple of "odd" losses, I'm happy with the seed. Just hope we can play against Indiana with the passion we played against Michigan State a couple of years ago or so.
I'm a big fan of Wendell McKines ("Everyday is Wen's day"). He's a very good player and seems to have a good head on his shoulders. Worked really hard year before last and then was injured before the season. He just took it in stride, kept working, and he's having a great senior season. More important (at least to me), he shows a lot of respect to his wife and child. Sorry to say, nowadays, that isn't always the case.
Hope both schools do well. I really hate the all too often "one and out" results both schools have suffered in the past.

Both UNM and NMSU got tough draws, Long Beach State won't be an easy out, they have played San Diego State, Kansas and North Carolina tough, all losses but not by much. I'd give UNM the edge but every year it's not uncommon to see a #12 seed upset a #5 Aggies play a tradition rich Indiana but I like the Aggies chances to keep it a game and maybe even an upset. Aggies have about 3 starters I think that played in the 2010 tournament and gave Michigan State a game in the opening round. Vandy and Jeff Taylor look good too, only 1 of 2 teams that have beaten Kentucky the other being Indiana who the Aggies have to play , if you can see them in Albq I would, I think they could go deep into the tournament.
