The video board is up and functional now, we put up some of bigdog's footage from last year and it looked amazing up there. Pictures of the video board with footage on it don't come out too good but in person WOW!!! I'm impressed. This puts Bulldog Bowl over the top of any high school stadium in New Mexico, if it wasn't already. Still got new turf to come as well.

They had some of your HD video playing up there tonight. We went and checked it out. The good news it's HD, but it appeared to be a standard 4:3 aspect ratio. Although in your pictures above it appears widescreen. I know, I'm being picky. The picture looked great though.

I think those were bigdogs videos, who knows that video could have been encoded for 4:3 instead of 16:9 and it might have been 720p as well, usually I encode all my videos for the internet for 720p just to keep the file size lower.
We are still learning about this thing, I'm sure we will be making some test videos and getting all the settings down to make it look top notch on whatever we display up there.

I was driving north on Bulldog Blvd yesterday afternoon and they had it all lit up with probably 100, give or take, of those yellow smiley faces. Test pattern maybe? Anyway, I was surprised at how vivid it was in the daytime. I knew it would be awesome at night, but I figured the sunshine would wash out a lot of the colors in the daytime.

Crispy .... the boards brightness can be adjusted for day or nighttime viewing. They had me turn the brightness down so that it would look better at night for the next couple of days. At full brightness yesterday, the video is just as vivid as it was at night. It really is amazing. Those smiley faces were just a temporary test background of the board while we switched the programming. And Jayster ..... gripe, gripe, gripe. Those videos weren't produced in widescreen format. It was just something I brought along with me to test it. Everything will be sharp and fullscreen when we really start using it.

So, what are the actual dimensions of the board? Does anybody know?

Rick, we've had a SuperWalmart for several years now! If someone really wanted to change Artesia they could put in a Golden Corral or Whataburger! LOL

Went and checked it out yesterday during the daylight. They had some HD Widescreen content playing and it looked remarkably bright in the sunlight. Whoever would shoot HD programming and present it in standard 4:3 format is kooky in my book!

Pretty sure that football video wasn't encoded to 4:3 I believe it is 720p though, and that's probably why it didn't fill the whole screen on there is my guess, so it leaves the black bars on the edges kinda like your home tv does when you watch standard def on your hd tv or you can stretch it to fill the screen but it distorts the picture more. It's just the difference in uploading a video that will go on Youtube vs a Jumbotron or whatever you want to call it. Even at that it looked impressive to me, anyways it will all be worked out the time football season gets here.

Randall, you've hit on something. What are we going to call the video board? It needs a name or an acronym! BoD: Bulldogs on Display; BvB: Bulldog Video Board; BAD: Bad-Axx Display! Dog-A-Tron.

Dogatron! I like it! Sounds like something out of those Transformer movies.
So that makes it 3. The motion is passed? It's official. Dogatron it is. Besides, the guy on the radio (KSVP) called it Dogatron the other day, so that's official enough for me.

LOL We need something in here too many burger restaurant. LoL Long John Silvers! I've been beating that drum for over 20 years. I still can't believe we don't have one. Every time they clear off a lot on Main Street I think, MAYBE..........just maybe. Only to see an Autozone, or an Aaron's go up. They cleared off the lot at 10th and Main right behind the high school and I thought LJS!!! Looks like that is going to be a coffee shop or something. I am still holding out hope for the corner where they tore down the old gas station due north of the Bowl parking lot, lol.

A few years ago I bumped into a friend from high school. When I told him I'd lived in Artesia for 20 years, he said he used to work for the Furr's Cafeteria chain and had once surveyed Artesia for a possible location.
But he said Artesia's population didn't warrant building a Furr's there, which is why they instead built it on the south end of Carlsbad.
I told him his research missed the boat on that one, since Artesia is a major hub for northbound and southbound traffic on U.S. 285 as well as the east-west traffic coming through on U.S. 82.
And I told him how athletic teams of all ages came through town quite often because I'd see them invading La Fonda or the fast-food chains. I thought a small Furr's would've done well there. I also told him about Artesia's itty-bitty cafeteria (I can't even remember its name now).
For years, I also thought Artesia badly needed a good-sized apartment complex or two that wasn't limited to this or that specific group.

The Furrs that was in Roswell and in Carlsbad are now closed. There is one in Hobbs still.
