This afternoon I was driving down Main Street. Just as I passed Sonic I glanced over toward Bulldog Bowl. There is some definitely some activity at the Bowl in the north parking area, right behind Sonic. There was a work crew there, I saw several pickups from Constructors Inc. I also noticed that they have planted 4 poles in the ground just a couple of feet outside the fence on the north end of the stadium. The end where the flag pole is. Looks to be steel pipe, maybe 6 - 8 inch in diameter, and about 4 times as high as the fence. Not sure what it's going to be, but whatever it is it is definitely big. Flipped a U-turn just to make sure, and definitely 4 times higher than the fence. 4 pretty good sized poles all perfectly aligned.
The very first thing that popped into my head was VIDEO BOARD! Although I could be wrong. Not sure why they would put a video board OUTSIDE the fence. But at that height it would definitely be visible inside the stadium. I was hesitant to even mention a video board because I didn't want to get my hopes up, or anybody else's for that matter. Not to mention that I haven't seen anything in the paper. But that's all I could think of that made any sense.
So does anybody know what's going on over there?

It is definitely a video board, I thought I mentioned that on here already. Supposed to be as big as wide as the scoreboard but taller.
Should be pretty cool, one thing that can't be done on it is replays though, to my understanding it's against the rules to show replays.

You probably did mention it and I just missed it. I can't wait to see it. The no replay rule makes perfect sense. I can totally understand that one, although I'm not sure what you would use one for besides replays. They probably have the same rule in Texas.

In fact I think Texas is the exact opposite crispy, maybe cdog or texas oil can say for sure but I think I remember seeing video replays in Midland on their video board.
They can use it to show starting lineups, graphics, maybe previous plays from last week? of course advertisements, chance to make some money back. Just a lot of things you could do with it.

Oh yeah and most of all Game stats, stats, stats and more stats.
Be nice to see how many rush yards or passing yards someone has. Maybe put up some of the all time stats and leaders up their. That would be nice.

I just hope that the whole thing is VIDEO BOARD, and not just a big board covered with a bunch of permanent adds and a little bitty video screen right in the middle........like Hobbs.
I am assuming that it would be possible to patch a video camera directly into the video board. That would make it possible to do stuff like shots of the crowd, and sideline interviews. Just have somebody with a video camera roaming the sidelines. And the audio? I am assuming that the audio could be supplied by the current PA system when audio was needed, for stuff like sideline interviews.
And why stop there? Take a camera into the dressing room just before the team exits (pre-game), and with Cooper's permission of course, and do something like THIS! Complete with AUDIO. Talk about an intimidation factor! Man, the possibilities for this thing are endless!

This is funded by a private donor, everyone knows who that is lol. It's going to be nice, best in the state by far imo when all is said and done. Who else even has video besides Hobbs? I don't know of anyone else. It should dwarf that one. It will be full HD as well to my understanding.
Yeah your on the right track now crispy lol, no replays but their is a lot of potential for things you can do.
Don't forget the Bowl is getting brand new turf as well, the same that was used on the baseball field. How lucky are these kids that get to play in this environment. I'm really looking forward to football next year, especially with these changes.

I will be happy if it is HD. As you can tell from Trevor's soph video highlights even the varsity highlights were not shot in HD. I was going to make a suggestion to Raye at QB Club to buy new HD gear. Our Tuesday night meetings and film review would be much better! Man, I'm an SD snob!

Yeah for sure HD screen, whether or not HD Video will be displayed on it is another story. If they use the game film from the athletic dept, they don't have hd cameras, so like you said Jay they will need to get new cameras.

I heard the video board was also going to be used at Track meets. They could list events, event times, results and times. I heard it was supposed to be on top of the Girls new facility. I guess something changed that, either weight or better view. It will be nice, I am sure. Thanks to the donor and the powers that be!!!

The no replay rule does not exist in Texas. Just cannot be used to aid in officiating. It is used completely for fan-enjoyment. NMAA needs to keep their hands out of whether a school is allowed to show a replay. It would help to hold officials accountable, even if it were not used for the purpose of getting a call correctly. Again, I think the NMAA is completely over-stepping on this.

OK, I've not been to Artesia since 2003, so what are two of those buildings in the background? There's a two-toned gray (light gray/dark gray) building with flagpoles in front of it. Looks like it sits in the parking lot of that little strip mall just north of the Bowl. Or is that just the remodeled front of the Furr's? And in the far background, just to the right of the bottom of the crane, there looks like a multi-story building. I see dots that might be windows. What's that?

The two-toned gray (light gray/dark gray) building with flagpoles in front of it is the old Furr's building that has been transformed into Holly Energy offices.
And in the far background, the multi-story building is a "dorm" at FLETC.

Big gray building just to the left of the video board is the new offices for Holly Energy (Navajo Refinery), use to be the old Furr's grocery store. Just to the right side of the crane is one of the dorms for FLETC. That building is a 4 story, and is actually about a mile or more off in the distance.

Damn! Artesia's getting taller! Thanks for the ID's.
Next thing you know, somebody'll build a Wal-Mart or something.

To clarify, the grey building is the HollyFrontier building, Holly Energy is only part of what's housed inside. Navajo is owned by HollyFrontier, Holly Energy is a different branch of the corporation.
