I just found this on the Terpening and Son site a couple of minutes ago. Mr. Lee was the principal at AHS during the entire time I was there, 1973-1976. I think he remained at that position for at least a couple of years after I graduated. I just thought there might be a few on here who remember him. Thoughts and prayers to his family. artesiafunerals.com/fh/obituaries/obituary.cfm?o_id=1508615&fh_id=12659

He was MY PRINCIPAL! This was a Great Man. Teachers Loved him, Students Loved him, Parents Loved him. He was a tough guy who did it in a respectful way. He is a reason why Artesia is Artesia. God Speed Mr. Lee!

I knew all the family when they moved here, then I moved to San Jon, where Mr. Lee was before coming here, same thing up there, everyone loved him. I have not been to see it but the football field is named after him, Ed Lee Sports Complex. I noticed there will be a service there on Wednsday.

The City of Champions has suffered a great loss with the passing of Mr. Ed Lee. He was a great teacher, coach, principal and mentor to thousands of young people over the years. He was a great influence on my life and I consider it a honor to have known him. I know he is in a better place today. Where the fishing and basketball are always good. Rest in Peace Mr. Lee you were a good a faithful servent.

Forgot about him being Judge too! He took San Jon to state championship first year he coached there, lost, but won next 2 or 3 and then one or two later along with several final 4 showings. He also started the SJ girls basketball team! There were some pretty good, and a couple of VERY funny, stories about him @ funeral. The one I had heard about before, but not full details was when they were on a trip to California? He left Sue at a gas station, didn't know she had got out! He was a great guy!

Wow, you learn something new every day! I never knew that he coached. I didn't know him until 1981, but I read up on his early-60ish teams at San Jon. I'm almost positive they had a three-peat ('62-64) in the smaller school division in boys' basketball state tournaments. One of his stars was a guy I got to be friends with in the 80's, Keith Bond.
