Just found this! Top 100 New Mexico High School Football Teams Of All Time. nmpreps.rivals.com/content.asp?SID=1172&CID=1356082There are a lot of things on this list that I agree with. And there are a lot that I do NOT agree with. Just thought this Top 100 list might start some good conversation. Discuss!

Crispy you need to go to The Old Coach and post pics of Artesia facilities for the jerks who think Artesia cannot compare to Texas in facilities

I thought this was posted a while back? It may have been. I know that I have seen it a few weeks ago but I thought it was on another site. Also, the last time I saw it the list was incomplete. I think they were only releasing a few every week and they had only done 100 thru 30 or something like that. This is the first time I have seen the complete list.

Crispy you need to go to The Old Coach and post pics of Artesia facilities for the jerks who think Artesia cannot compare to Texas in facilities I will try later Charlie. But if I remember correctly I have never had any luck posting pictures on any of the rivals sites. I seem to remember trying to post a pic on The Old Coach a while back and didn't have any luck. I tried every which way I could think of and had no luck. I finally just gave up. If you remember, I did something similar on ASN a while back. I will try to just copy and paste that entire post that I made on ASN and see if that will work. If it doesn't work then I may just have to go to TOC and put a link to the ASN thread.

I'm nowhere near the expert most of the posters on this board are concerning NM HS football history but I find it hard to believe that 9 teams are ranked ahead of the 2006 Artesia team that i saw destroy RR featuring Landry throwing to Scott Poe.

Mike......those RR teams that we played back then were just coming up. What I mean by that is that back when we played RR they were still building their program. But you could still tell that each year we played RR the games were getting tighter and tighter than the year before. Y'all were just beginning to pull even with the Bulldogs just about the time that the series was discontinued. If we had to play RR today I think it would be a totally different story. Today, RR has pretty much pulled themselves up to the same level as Clovis, Cruces, Mayfield, and the rest of the top teams in AAAAA. I shudder to think what would happen if Artesia dropped Deming from the schedule and added Rio Rancho. No doubt our schedule would be absolutely brutal, and probably the toughest schedule in the state. And quite possibly another loss for the Bulldogs. I have told many Bulldog fans this, and I will tell you now.............we dropped RR from the schedule at the right time.

This entire list is totally and completely invalidated by the fact that the 2007 Artesia team didn't even make the list. Landry Jones senior season! Completely destroyed Goddard in the state championship game. LJ only tossed 5 TD passes in that game to multiple receivers!
The funny part is that the 2007 Artesia team was on a par with, if not just SLIGHTLY behind, the 2006 Artesia team that squeaked by Goddard by just 7 points in the championship game the previous year. And that 2006 Artesia team (Landry's Jr season) is #10 on the list!!! Holy Cow!
I could understand 2007 Artesia being ranked 10-20 or even 20-30, but to not even be in the top 100 at all??? Somebody didn't do their homework!

Thanks for the comments Crispy but i was complimenting Artesia more than i was cutting RR. When I looked at the list I though of the 2006 team right away, did not see the 2007 team play. When i saw them 10th I thought it was too low, maybe should have been in the top 5. The LaCueva teams were powerfull but I dont remember any local team having a great passing attack they had to defend.

Crispy you need to go to The Old Coach and post pics of Artesia facilities for the jerks who think Artesia cannot compare to Texas in facilities Hey Charliedog! It is done. I went over to "The Old Coach" and started a new thread. With lots of pics! I think that you will be pleased. The title of the new thread on TOC is.........."Just Some Pics Of Our Facilities............" And for those of you who may not be familiar with "The Old Coach", it is a Texas high school football message board. TOC members are mainly Texas High School Football Coaches. Texas Football Coaches probably make up maybe 80% of the membership of that board. And over the past few days they have been slamming NM high school football, and NM high school football facilities very hard. If you would like to check out the thread that I started over on TOC you can see it here...... theoldcoach.rivals.com/showmsg.asp?fid=421&tid=156150038&mid=156150038&sid=984&style=2

Odd, I've had the complete list saved as a Favorite on my computer for quite a while now. I would put 2007 on that list for sure and the 2006 team maybe bump a spot or 2, but overall I agree with it mostly.

I'd give the edge to 98 on special teams, defense.

I'd give the edge to 98 on special teams, defense. You are correct Randall! My bad! It was 7! Not sure how I missed that. I guess we all screw up every once in a while. Just went to the "records" at artesiabulldogfootball.com and noticed that even though Paul Maupin was a Bulldog QB for 13 years (1994-2006) Landry still has almost twice as many "TD Passes Career". 96 for Landry and 52 for Paul. Now THAT is impressive! You know I am just giving you a hard time, right? I love what you do for all of us Bulldog fans, but I just couldn't resist, lol. I hope you don't take it the wrong way! Because that is NOT how I meant it! Just having fun! And about that 98 team........yeah, you may be right! I remember that team very well. Charles Maupin, J. P. Barta, Clinton Greathouse, Gabe Turner, Tyler Deans, Billy Wells, Jason Carter, the names just go ON and ON! I have them like this...... #1.......2006 #2.......1998 #3.......1974 And that really pains me because 1974 was during MY time at AHS, and your Dad was on that 74 team if I remember correctly. But man! That was SO long ago, how do you even compare? You could be right though, 98 could be better than 06. It's just that with such a HUGE name on that 06 team, and we all know who I am talking about, that may have influenced my #1 pick just a little. But I think that any Bulldog fan would agree that the top 3 were 98 74 and 06. Doesn't really matter what order you put them in.

oh I know crispy. The write up says 98 was not one of the best teams ever, in fact not even close is crazy, talking in terms of just artesia teams. Certainly hard to compare them with 74 and 68, times and teams were different. I seen 98 and 06, I don't think they are far apart. 98 had some bloodline names, maupin, whitmire, joseph. Joseph went d-1, if Marc West had interest in college football he had d1 potential I thought, always heard lobos were interested in him. I think Martinez could have too, if he had gone to a few camps who wouldn't want a 6'2 300 plus lineman strong as hell lol. I noticed something too going over that 98 roster, 3 players are deceased. Barta, Bryant, Martinez and 1 manager Reese Hunter. I knew 3 of these guys very well, only meet barta a couple times but he was only here for a short time. Very sad. www.artesiabulldogfootball.com/Rosters/1998.jpg

I rank the 74 team the best ever. My first year at AHS and the talent was amazing. We dominated every single team we played except for one hiccup with Tulie. Besides the athletes the team had the very best attitude I have ever seen a Bulldog team have. Total team attitude and sacrifice. Worked hard in every practice and deserved perfection.

I think the 1974 team had several DI players. Combs, Miller, Boyce, Clifton, maybe more. They had a Bally All-America kid, Jerome Aguilar, who was too small for college but a stud none the less. They had bloodline names as well, Green, Ivy, Miller, etc. What made them special to me, and I was a small, child, was the underclassmen that kicked tail when they pulled the previously mentioned animals off the field. That groups sophomore class was unreal.

Actually, I like to say that there were 5 because Randy Hill was a soph on that team and he played at UNM. I just went through that 1974 roster and what amazes me is how many of those guys on that '74 team still live here, or in the immediate area (Carlsbad for example). Amazing how many still live here, returned after college, or never left. I counted 14 on that list of 40 (35%) that I still see around town at least once a month. artesiabulldogfootball.com/Rosters/1974Roster.JPG
