Sorry guys tried to delete my post on the UNM thread and ended up deleting the whole thread lol. Anyways, has anyone gotten film to Danny Gonzales on Clay Houghtaling? 3 California Qb's on that roster, I don't like that, need to flip it. www.currentargus.com/story/sports/2019/12/23/artesias-clay-houghtaling-ties-landry-jones-td-passing-record/2699973001/Houghtaling finished the season completing 69.58 percent (231-for-332) of his throws for 3,536 yards and a QB rating of 136.5. On the ground Houghtaling led the team in rushing attempts (107) and was second on the team in rushing yards (302) and rushing scored (7). Through the air Houghtaling threw 46 touchdowns against six interceptions. The 46 touchdowns are the second-most thrown by a Bulldog in a single season. The record of 52 was set by Taylor Null during the 2017 championship season. Landry Jones' personal best was 45 touchdowns thrown in 2006.

Based on the highlites I have seen he has a D1 arm. Randall do you think he would fit in with the Lobos offense? He looks more like a fit for NMSU. UNM usually goes with the more mobile smaller types. RRs Isiah Chavez fits their offense but he dosent have the arm strength like Clay does. On the UNM thread I put that RRs head coach is married to Gonzales sister and he was the one who recruited Byrd and Banks to SDSU so it looks better for NM players going to UNM. Good luck Clay I hope you sign with a D 1A program

Mike I'm not even sure what the lobo offense is lol, will they change it up with the new coach coming in? If you remember Cleveland Storm QB Cole Gautsche, 6-4 that went to unm to play qb, he got concussed so many times and they finally moved him to TE if I remember right, I think Clay is a similar player, every bit 6'4 he can throw and run, played WR previous year I think he could be a TE as well, I don't remember Cole passing game as much, I think Clay probably more sharp a passer and Cole probably more sharp at running it, but very similar players. Just my opinion. Didn't work out too good for Gautsche but injuries really de-railed him as I remember. unfortunately don't have much highlights of clay or games this year, most games I caught we lost The 7 TD throws I caught, you see some great catch and run's by our WR, but that last pass to win the game was clutch. He had a tough job back there, we didn't run a whole lot, hence him being our leading rusher, was under heat against roswell, Los Lunas, did best he could, I think he has the tools pedigree. But what do I know lol. Taylor Null the other guy mentioned in those records with 52 had same potential, different qb than clay but very precise passer, has done well at Odessa at UTPB

I'm sure that Danny Gonzales is a good coach being a Rocky Long disciple and having spent a couple of years with Herm Edwards. Certainly appears to be a very good defensive coach. He has stated a desire to recruit New Mexico players. Clay is physically about the same size that Landry Jones was when he was at Artesia. Don't know if Clay has been coached up as well as Landry was. If I remember correctly Landry was selected and went to the Elite 11 camp. The disturbing thing about UNM currently is it appears that they made a hire based on salary. Danny Gonzales said that salary was not a high priority and evidently UNM took him at his word. He will be paid $700k which places him at 10th in the MWC. Evidently UNM does not have or will not spend the money necessary to achieve a respectable program. Will their facilities show out well enough to give Gonzales and his staff a fighting chance when recruiting an elite player? Don't care how good of a coach you may be but if you don't have the players you won't win.
