Got a Friday Night home game this week Roswell (1-0) comes to Artesia (0-2) Roswell defeated Carlsbad at home last week 24-14. Anaya leads Roswell to come from behind victoryRoswell comes in as the 2x Defending State Champions, Roswell was undefeated last year, the last time they actually lost a game was against Artesia in the 2018 district game with Artesia narrowly winning 36-35 on a 2pt conversion late in the game as I recall. Roswell would get their revenge in the semi-final playoff game beating Artesia 48-42 in the wool bowl en route to claiming the state title 42-6 over Los Lunas the following week. So Roswell been on a Rampage for 2 years straight, with that said I do believe this is a winnable game, not saying it's going to be easy by any means but Artesia can come away with a victory here. One thing I think will be interesting is how the defense will play against a more hybrid offense with run/pass team where Goddard and Carlsbad are run heavy 99% of the time. I think if the defense can get some stops as they did against carlsbad and goddard and we get the offense going and sustain some drives Bulldogs can pull this one off, again won't be easy though, Jeff Lynn has proven he's one of the best coaches in the state the way he's rebuilt the roswell program, he will get the most out of his talent. I'm expecting a good game Friday. More info later as far as tickets, I imagine it will be similar to last week.

I agree... I think Artesia is capable of winning this game. I think the dogs offense will be successful, and score 30+ points. Run Defense is always concerning..... Coyotes are very well coached and run a predominantly run based offense that can be successful with even an average offensive line, as long as the guards can get the job done. Pulls, traps, dives- everything follows the guards. It’s more deceptive than Goddard and Carlsbad’s run attack. Coach Lynn is the X factor..... he makes great adjustments, and will do unconventional things to get his playmakers the ball in space. He also does a great job managing the Coyotes stamina vs Artesia. Instead of having his best offensive kids go both ways all game long- he often subs them on defense to keep them from fading late or taking plays off.

Went to RRHS to get my ticket today and the place was locked, couldnt get in the administration and the entrance to the gym was locked. Wa told there was no sales the day of the game. Incompetence rules! If I ran my office this way in the AF I would have been in real trouble.

Hmmm, maybe call ahead mike? Ours is only open certain hours for ticket sales, but the office is generally open when school is in session but with Covid, who knows ? Everyone got different rules to play by. The lady that runs our athletic office is pretty good, been doing it a long time, always super helpful. Had to put that out there

Big Win tonight for the dogs.
Started off the game with the Dog Pile and it was on from there. 1st play from scrimmage RB Jake Barrera takes off for 58 yard Touchdown run. Think he had 3 Touchdowns on the night, Braxton McDonald had 2 or 3 Touchdown Receptions and Cord Cox was a threat running and passing. Offense was on fire tonight, Defense did enough to get the win, late int by Zane Montgomery help seal it. Still work to do but Huge win, dogs snap Coyotes 19 game win streak.
I'll have some highlights tomorrow.

Great game for the Dogs!! Offense looked great - Cox, Barrera & Braxton really stood out, but the whole unit looked good. I really want to give credit, to Coach Johnson and the defense. I am often a critic of the D (especially the run D)..... NOT TODAY!! I loved how prepared we were this game. The game plan was great and the kids did fantastic against the run!! Sure, we gave up several big plays in the air to #3. Even those plays were due to missed tackles or just being outplayed for the ball. But I have no problem giving up a few passing miscues, rather than watching a team run the same play 50 times for 400 yards...... Congratulations Bulldogs...... and great game Coach Johnson and the Defensive staff and players!!
Also: Tonight may have been one of my favorite moments as a Bulldog fan. 4th and forever, Coyotes going for it..... everyone on the field, those in the stands and even fans on the radio- know this play is going to be a jump ball to #3 (it has worked all night long)!! To my surprise- I see (starting QB, and 2019 starting safety) Cord Cox take the field to defend this key play!! And it works!! Finally Artesia gets the stop they needed and swings the momentum. I’ve always felt that on some occasions, it would be beneficial to use your best athletes on obvious passing downs to give us the best chance to win games.

I’ve always felt that on some occasions, it would be beneficial to use your best athletes on obvious passing downs to give us the best chance to win games. OH WOW! I guess I missed that one! But then again, I didn't watch the entire game. So our starting QB came on the field on defense and broke up a pass play! I wonder how long it has been since that has happened. Better yet, here is a trivia question that I just now thought of. I don't know the answer to my own trivia question, so I am just throwing this out there............. Who was the last Bulldog starting QB......or when was the last time that a Bulldog starting QB.......took the field on defense and intercepted a pass? My guess is that you would probably have to go all the way back to the late-70s or early-80s. I know that when I was in high school at AHS......I graduated in 1976......current Bulldog assistant coach Jeff Davis played some QB. And he also played in the secondary on defense. That was before we started platooning, we had multiple offensive players that also played defense, and visa -versa. I am sure that Jeff Davis intercepted a few passes back when I was in school. But the thing is I can't remember if Coach Jeff Davis was ever the STARTING QB.....or if he ever started a game at QB. But I do know that he took some snaps at QB during his high school football career. Just would be interested to know if any of the old-timers on here have any thoughts about my trivia question.

Bulldogs won 43-28........Roswell 2 time defending state champions.....broke their 19 game winning streak......totally blew my mind......I expected exactly the opposite.

But then again, I didn't watch the entire game. So our starting QB came on the field on defense and broke up a pass play! . Just to clarify.... Cox didn’t break up the play. But it was the first time all game that #3 was completely covered up. Pando #13 had good coverage down the field and Cox had great over the top coverage as well. It obviously surprised the Coyotes QB, because when he saw the blanket coverage - he didn’t bother looking for a second option and tried to escape the pocket, and Dogs got the sack. Turnover on downs. I’m not an advocate of playing both ways all game. I love that we can make adjustments all game long between each series (offense and defense). But in last nights case...... Just having an athlete like Cord Cox on the field in a key situation changed the play, he didn’t even have to make the play....... that’s why I think this tactic should be implemented more often in big moments, with our top athletes.

I guess that would be helpful lol. Forgot that in my excitement last night I didn't catch that either Cord going on to the field on defense, I agree though love that call, be flexible if nothing else use guys were needed if we got too, And we had to be flexible, lost a couple guys on Defense and 2 Olineman stepped in, never played D before. Finishing the Highlights and will post shortly.

After watching those highlights - it was the very first play of the 4th quarter (Coyotes ball, driving north, 4th and long). You don’t see him (Cox) in the frame, but he is the safety over the top on the Coyotes sideline.
Anyway..... enough on that! Great job, BULLDOGS!!

Loved it! Thanks.
Who's that little RB (#24)? I'm too lazy to look it up.
And, are the players not using the field house? At the start, they're approaching the ramp from a different direction.

I'm sure it has to do with COVID restrictions. You're only allowed a certain number of players in the locker room. We played Mayfield at the Feild of Dreams and were only allowed 10 players in the locker room at a time. They had a set up outside for our players before the game and also at halftime.

Thanks. Is this something New Mexico's beloved guv came up with?
