Artesia hits the road this Friday to play Alamogordo. When the schedule came out your pretty much chalked this game up to an easy win, well not so fast my friend as Lee Corso says. Alamogordo is (5-1) with their only loss coming at the hands of Mayfield 51-20. We do have some common opponents Deming and Valencia, Alamo beat Valencia 39-0 and Deming 27-20 last week. Artesia beat Valencia 38-31 and Deming 53-15. From my old scores I show the last time we played was 1989 with Alamo winning 43-18. Looks like we had a Series with them from 1985-1989. artesiabulldogfootball.com/Past%20Scores.pdfCould be an interesting game, be nice to add another 6A win on the resume before District play begins.

Randall I believe we scrimmaged them while I was in hs. They were pure speed and we were really physical. As I remember they threw it often and we ran a physical brand of the wing and slot T offense. In 1984, I'm pretty sure we had our way with them, though they did move the ball a little bit. They couldn't stop the fullback trap(432) or 2 back sweep (428). Gary Vheem was the coach. He was a NM legend at the time. At some point in time they had all pro defensive lineman Darius Holland who played for the Colorado Buffs and Green Bay Packers.

We play them my senior year in Alamogordo we won the game 35-21...they were pretty tough team.

I guess he could have also played for Alamogordo, but he definitely played for Mayfield. I know that for a fact. Larry Combs also coached the Alamo Tigers for a while, but I think he was an assistant.

I can remember EXACTLY the last time I saw Alamogordo play "in person". And as strange as it may seem it was NOT against the Artesia Bulldogs. In 1990 I drove to Odessa TX to watch the Alamogordo Tigers take on Odessa Permian at Ratliff Stadium. Permian won that game 35-12. I ran into a few Artesia people at that game, Jimmy Boyse and somebody else from Artesia (can't remember who for sure, but I THINK it was Jerome Aguilar) was standing right in front of me in the line to the ticket booth.

I remember he told me that he was told "Don't put that dog pile in over here", by a booster. He flared up and said, "Oh don't worry, I won't." Like they needed to know that the dog pile is sacred, and only for Artesia and Artesia kids. He had some good Alamogordo stories. It just wasn't a football town.

Artesia going put a whooping on Alamogordo just like we did when I play at Tigers stadium.

Oh, ok.....I did not realize that he was the head coach...now I do. Thanks! Also, I think it was Deming that came down the loser's ramp at the start of the game one year and ran straight to mid-field and did the dog pile. I know that ticked off a lot of Artesia people. That was almost as bad as T.O. dancing on the Star at Texas Stadium BEFORE he played for the Cowboys. Not sure which year it was, but I'm pretty sure we sent Deming home with a well deserved loss for that one.

I think the coach was a former Artesia assistant coach that did that in a play off game. I the he called the Wildcat Pounce. I can't remember the coach's name. Obviously Deming doesn't do that anymore. Yep, I understand is one of a kind and the dog pile went at least partially viral on you tube for awhile.

Yes, Deming did it...When I first got there Deming was 0-24. I was showing the Deming kids a highlight film of Artesia to let them see what real football was like. The kids thought the Dog Pile was the coolest thing they had ever seen, and asked me if they could do it. Looking for any positive thing for the kids to get excited about, we did it. A couple of years later, we scheduled Artesia, and were soundly booed and beaten. (Oh well, I did it for the Deming kids, not to spite Artesia).

I had forgotten that you were at Deming for a while. I feel about 2 ft tall. Feel like crawling under a table and hiding now, lol.

Well, I really believe that the defense for the bulldogs will carry the 'dogs to a win. Surely, the offense will score but the defense will be the stellar piece of the game. In my next life I think I will be a defensive coach LOL
