I just read the past state champions on nmaa website and 5 different times the Bulldogs have played teams that were undefeated and bragged about how good they were and those teams were humbled by the dogs. I'm not in favor of smack talk cause let's be honest this team these kids this town is never about hurting anyone its sleazy about building better young men for the world. The he program they have built here works and the whole state knows it. Some respect it others criticize it over and over again because they have no answer for it. We win and have honor and integrity with class we shake there hands with respect. We loose we are humbled and make no excuses they were the better team.
These are the Artesia Bulldogs fighting for 60+ years to have not just footballs on a press box but basketballs and vollyballs and many other sports symbols from kids who earned them every step of the way. This town this stadium was built on the backs of oilfield workers and the good people of this great town that I'm proud to call home. Title town is the name earned by these young men and women that play there hearts out ever year. Come Saturday the Eagles will know for all to well that this team rolls over for NO ONE.

Prep football: Casillas has Belen on cusp of winning titlewww.abqjournal.com/1099122/prep-football-casillas-has-belen-on-cusp-of-winning-title.htmlBELEN — “Beast,” was how an opposing coach described him. “Monster,” marveled one of his offensive lineman, Rowdy Robinson. “Animal,” quarterback Zach Halterman said. Any of these words are applicable for Belen High School junior running back Diego Casillas. Surprising would be another, since this particular player thought Casillas’ 2017 season would be notable for his work as a linebacker. “No way,” Casillas said, asked if he could have anticipated this type of success carrying the ball for the Eagles. “I wasn’t expecting this big of a season.” What Artesia quarterback Taylor Null’s right arm is to the Bulldogs, who play host to Belen on Saturday afternoon in the Class 5A final, Casillas’ powerful legs are to the Eagles. Coming off a season-best 302-yard performance in the semifinals last week against Roswell, Casillas is approaching 2,500 yards — not for his career, but this season. He’s rushed for 2,439 yards and more than 10 yards a carry this season for Belen (12-0), with 31 touchdowns. And, oh yeah, he missed Belen’s season opener and carried it only six times in Week 2 against Highland as Eagles coach Greg Henington limited his work as a “precaution” due to an arm injury. Six times this season, Casillas, a 6-foot, 195-pounder, has topped 250 yards in a game. Which is why Roswell coach Jeff Lynn called Casillas a “beast” before the semis last week. “That’s a good word,” Henington said. “That sums him up, it really does. There are a lot of fancy words you could use, but that’s the best one.” Casillas, born and raised in Belen and converted to a running back just three years ago, as an eighth-grader, said it would have been difficult to project these gaudy numbers. Belen’s offensive line from last year had graduated, and two of his teammates —including Robinson — asked Henington if they could join that O-line as it retooled. Casillas holds deep admiration for his blockers. “I was a little worried,” Casillas said of the line. “But those guys (on the line) are the real deal.” The offseason for Casillas was spent largely, he said, on strength and mobility skills, but he admitted this had more to do with his desire to improve his linebacking than to possibly lead his classification in rushing. If he wants a college career as a running back, he admits he’d better find another speed gear. “I was expecting more of a defensive year,” he said. “I like defense better. Now I’m starting to move more toward offense.” Starting? A visitor asked. Casillas smiled. He’s already there, the visitor said. “He’s a downhill runner,” said Henington. “But he has got (moves) as well and he’s shown that breakaway speed.” And endurance, too. By Henington’s estimation, Casillas is on the field for about 90 plays every game, which translates into nearly 1,000 plays, and countless hits, both absorbed and delivered. But Casillas and his coach say the running back’s body is holding up just fine. “He’s tough,” Henington said. “And I think we do a good job at practice of not over-hitting.” Artesia figures to target Casillas on Saturday at the Bulldog Bowl. Of course, most everyone goes after Casillas, with little effectiveness. “He knows he’s got to carry the ball, and they know he’s got to carry the ball,” Henington said. Halterman, Belen’s excellent QB who’s been sticking the ball in Casillas’ gut all year, said his running back has a special quality. “I’d say an animal,” Halterman said as he looked for that word to define Casillas. “If you saw the Roswell game, in the red zone, he chucked, like, three guys. He’s also shifty, too.” So Artesia’s defense has its hands full. “I got all the lineman,” Casillas said confidently. “If they want to stop me, they to have through them first.”

If you guys have a second peek in on there Facebook page. A lot of there fans seem to think that we're afraid of this team that there gonna run right over the Bulldogs that there coming into our house and taking what belongs to them. One guy even can't figure out why Bulldogs are a number one seed and belen is number two. The more I read the more I chuckle. Hype isn't hype there coming down with lots of noise makers and fans soaring like eagles mighty and magestic spirit of a horse mind of a bull drives a bulldozer or is it mind of a horse drives a bull and looks like a bulldozer it was something like that they have a lot to say about this kid and this team. When it's all said and done come Saturday talk is cheap. The best two teams are gonna be out there and only one walks away with a blue trophy. Gonna be fun to see how it turns out.

This is a post on the Belen Eagles Facebook page from one of their fans or parents.
Joseph Serna: Young Men don't let no big stadium or 80+ team fool you. I heard from my friend down south say they are nervous as he'll of You. So go with your mind clear, execute every down and hit them so hard they will never forget you. Just go work like you know how Coaches manifest destiny. GO EAGLES
My assumption is that Mr. Serna is trying to pump up his boys and knows no one down south as he states. It's both funny and understanding that since they don't know what it feels like to grow up in Artesia, playing in the Bowl and always remembering your head coach and coaches for how they influenced your life; they feel they need to sell cowbells, create imaginary characters from down south, etc. to have hope of winning their first State Title. No one knows what the score will be, however for those of us who played in that bowl we understand that this 2017 Bulldog team know what they have to do and will have butterflies minutes before the game (just like every other Bulldog that has played) and once you step off that ramp it is on until the chubby lady sings (win or lose).
PS. This guy thinks we have a student body as big as Cleveland or like the team that played my son Ryan Rod's team from 2011 (Coach Dwight Butlers AD)the Granbury, Texas Pirates in 2011 (a team from Waco, TX who looked like a college team). My graduating class of 1988 had 170 total students. Saturday's game should be entertaining.

LOL! These fans from Belen crack me up. Talking about taking back what rightfully belongs to them. How can you take something back that you have never had in the first place???

As we go for State Title #30, we can either claim sole possession of 3rd place, still be tied for 3rd, or move to 4th. All possibilities. Everett MA is undefeated and in the State Title game this weekend as well. They won State last year as well link to their schedule and bracket Everett MA Maxpreps

No Problem, Is it wrong of me to want Everett to lose? lol I highly doubt that Everette will lose. MaxPreps has them ranked at #425 in the nation. Just for comparison purposes.......Manzano is ranked at #210 nationally......and Las Cruces is #709......all according to MaxPreps rankings. So they are probably better than Cruces, but not as good as Manzano. The team that Everette will be facing in the Massachusetts state title game is Xaverian Brothers, the #7 ranked team in the State of Massachusetts.......Everette is ranked #1 in MA obviously. Hate to say it, but I see Everette taking this one easily. Artesia and Everette will probably be tied at 30 state titles each after this season, assuming that the 'Dogs win tomorrow. OH, and just for "shits and giggles"...as Austin Powers would say......... neutral field [2017] Manzano (Albuquerque, NM) 35, [2017] Everett (MA) 28
neutral field [2017] Everett (MA) 31, [2017] Las Cruces (NM) 28
neutral field [2017] Everett (MA) 41, [2017] Artesia (NM) 27

From CalPreps Yeah I'm afraid Everett clearly the favorite to win, we will be tied with them, don't want no competition on the way to #1

Yep, Yep, That Bulldog Defense is anxiously awaiting this opportunity to show why the Bulldogs are rated #1,,,,, There is only one reason why the Bulldogs are rated #1,,,there are TWO reasons why Belen is rated #2,,,,,,heh, heh, heh

I seem to remember a few years ago when Hobbs had a studly "beast"/"animal" who was going to run all over Artesia. I think that we held him to something like 18 yards on 20 carries or something like that! Gee what was his name? ?? Oh yeah, Timmy Smith! A super bowl MVP! Go Bulldogs! We believe in you!

HA, HA, HA, BulldogFan4ever,,,,,,I was there,,,!!! and I remember how he strutted up and down during warmups,,really believing he was a ,,,,beast,,,,wasn't no beast to him after the Bulldog Defense showed him a little lesson in HUMILITY,,,that one always makes me think of one of the sayings a year or so back,,,,"It's not the size of the dog in the fight,,,it's the size of the fight in the DOG" "On the Road to 30"
Timmy Smith did go on and get drafted by The Washington Redskins and set a record that I believe still stands for most rushing yardage by a rookie in a Super Bowl. Unfortunately,,I read he got into drug problems and that was the last year he played professionally.

Them Eagles best not be too awful keen on their beast,,,,,they're gonna have their hands full with Mr. Fernandez, Mr Bustamante and Mr Donaghe,,,PLUS they got one heck of BIG, BIG chore to contend with MR. NULL and his stable of very adept receivers. A Roswell fumble with just minutes left is what saved their season,,,just saying,,,,,
