I've been looking forward to this one, I think they were a good add to our schedule. They had a good run last year. They beat Piedra Vista in the opening round of the playoffs last year 21-0. They gave Farmington all they wanted for awhile, 7-6 Farmington at half.
I thought there was a decent chance we would play them instead of Farmington, but shot themselves in the foot too many times with turnovers near the goal-line before ultimately losing 28-6, but honestly they played well for a team that made a day trip up there and were big time underdogs.
Maybe not as strong a team this year, but looking forward to seeing them in the bowl for the first time in a long time.

Speaking of PV. Piedra Vista visits Roswell this Friday. #1 vs #2. I'll be rooting for Roswell, be good for our district and probably good for us. If PV wins, fell pretty confident they will win out and claim #1 seed. Goddard @ Belen Mayfield @ Deming

I don't know a whole lot about them, they seem to lean on the run but will pass it too. Stud QB and RB from last year graduated. looks like guys play both ways. Angel Hernandez RB/MLB has 10 Touchdown runs. QB/FS Jack Bumgardner has 4 TD Passes and 3 TD Runs, seems to be a decent athlete, but not on the level as the Lovington qb in my opinion. www.maxpreps.com/nm/santa-teresa/santa-teresa-desert-warriors/football/stats/

Kinda hoping it goes toe to toe and PV comes out on top. That way if we get a shot at PV it will maybe be just like last year when Farmington came to town.

Coyotes going to win big over PV. I'm good with that. Keeps #1 seed in play.
Coyotes go to #1, figure PV will be #2 and us still at #3.
Sets up a big game to open district with the Coyotes at Home in 2 weeks. Going to be a battle.

Dadgumit, started off strong with a big return. Our special teams have looked dominant. Coaches have done a great job with these units. Defensively, also looked very physical as usual against 5a opponents. (Amazing what they can do with a real DC). Great to see all of our starters back and healthy. Offensively, variations of screens the coaches have developed, leave opposing defenses without an answer. This brand new offensive look is a breath of fresh air. The bye week is well deserved for these coaches and players. HOW BOUT THOSE ORANGE PANTS!!!??

I’m glad the coaches saw the unity everyone saw against Lovington and awarded them the orange pants. I think it brought a little spark the fans too! Overall great win in all three phases of the game. Offensively we are still struggling with the turnovers. Our district won’t let us get away with that. Is there not a ball security drill being taught in practice? I liked how Coach Maupin is creating his own offensive identity and I might say it’s a little bit more flexible and explosive than the Henderson era. I have to disagree with your DC comment though. Our last DC was still a good DC. I think this game wouldn’t be any different with another DC. Who is our special teams coordinator? That guy needs a pay raise!!! Moving on from Santa Teresa, I hope this bye week serves a good purpose and allows our coaches to game plan a little better for Roswell. It didn’t seem to help much last year. This could be a preview of this years state championship game!

Terrible football. If anyone thinks that helps Artesia they are crazy. There are peewee teams in TX better than ST.

Well that was embarrassing. I’m sure ST has never been in an atmosphere like the Bulldog Bowl and it showed. Star struck would be an understatement.
Gonna find out a lot about ourselves in two weeks. Roswell is legit, and very well coached. In fact I don’t think Coach Maupin has ever beat Roswell. I hope we have the team to get that monkey off his back.
Our Offense is really explosive with some good athletes, but if you watched every game you can see there are some glaring issues. Ball security is a major concern, inability to the run the football, receiver dropped passes are way too high, and the QB seems to make at least one terrible decision/read per game throwing to the other team.
Defensively will get some questions answered about them. So far they have been Jekyll and Hyde….. Totally dominant over 5A teams, but have literally been ran over by 6A schools (giving up over 375 yds rushing to each of them, Hobbs, Cleveland, Carlsbad). Roswell uses multiple formations and really move players around, including switching lineman from side to side. Plus they have a big powerful back who will really test our undersized LB’s.
I think we have the talent to beat the Coyotes, if we play a solid game and limit mistakes. But it all starts with believing it. Im not sure Roswell has gotten this group of kids best game over the years (from freshman to JV, to last year’s varsity game). We just seem to hold something back. I guarantee Roswell will play like a Bully…… will we fight back after getting punched in the mouth or fold up shop? That will decide the outcome.

Did I hear the radio guys say that due to injuries, Santa Teresa had to use its No. 3 quarterback this game?

Did I hear the radio guys say that due to injuries, Santa Teresa had to use its No. 3 quarterback this game? I don't remember hearing anything about that, but doesn't mean they didn't say it. I was in-and-out most of the game.....missed parts of it. Maybe somebody else knows something.
