For at least the last 20 years, and maybe even longer, our scrimmage (not talking 7-on-7 but our regular scrimmage) has ALWAYS been with Onate and it has ALWAYS been in Artesia. Every single year they load up in the bus and hit the road to come over here. I always wondered why they ever agreed to a deal like that. Is it the free burgers? Don't get me wrong, the burgers are good but it just doesn't seem like a very good trade-off to me.

It's a better deal than you will get any where else. Come scrimmage a quality team in one of the best stadiums in NM. Get a free meal and a road trip. I don't think you will be treated any better on the road than you are in Artesia.

I think it has to do with scrimmaging a quality opponent. Since we traditionally have the scrimmage in conjunction with the Hamburger fry, I think they have just understood and agreed to come here. Incidentally, years ago our scrimmage was with NMMI. I don't remember when it stopped but it seemed to be around the time NMMI dropped from AAA back in those days. I think it got to the point where it wasn't doing either team that much good and I think NMMI wanted to do a home and home series on the scrimmage. I like scrimmaging Onate, they bring a good brand of football every year.

So, someone take some video of the Onate scrimmage game and place it here or on youtube and let me know. I'd like to watch the video.

I like scrimmaging Onate, they bring a good brand of football every year. The last year was in 95, the infamous scrimmage when Paul Maupin injured his knee and missed his entire junior year. With him at QB, the Bulldos would have challenged for the title and that would have made 7 championships in a row 92-98. The NMMI coach at that time tried to make a power play to get a home scrimmage but Cooper wouldn't have any of that and found someone else (Onate).

2014 Scrimmage / Hamburger fry / Pep Rally was a great success. The team looked good, the burgers were great and the crowd and the atmosphere were game like. Excited about this years team. They are working hard and should be a very competitive team this year. Look for them to get better every week and having success throughout the season. Great bunch of young men. Outstanding Coaching Staff. I can't wait till Friday. Go Dogs!
