(Well, Landry now has the single-game passing record with 505 yards vs. previously-lucky Kansas State in Manhattan. I guess this means the Bradford-only OU fans on the 'net will rip him that much worse....)
MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) -- Landry Jones and Ryan Broyles helped No. 9 Oklahoma get back on track and spoil No. 8 Kansas State's dream season.
Jones threw for a school-record 505 yards and five touchdowns, his All-American wide receiver caught 14 passes for 171 yards and a score, and the Sooners bounced back from a stunning defeat to beat the previously unbeaten Wildcats 58-17 Saturday.
Kenny Stills added four catches for 101 yards, Roy Finch finished with 73 yards rushing and another 69 through the air, and the Sooners' potent, fast-paced attack managed 690 yards of total offense against the league's top-ranked defense.
Jones' passing total shattered the previous record of 468 yards he shared with Sam Bradford, while Broyles moved into first place on the Big 12's career list with 4,499 yards receiving.
It wasn't all good for Oklahoma (7-1, 4-1).
Leading rusher Dominique Whaley was hurt while blocking on the first play of the game. The Oklahoma medical staff put an air cast around his lower left leg and he was removed from the field on a cart. He later returned to the sideline on crutches, but the extent of the injury was unknown.
Little else went wrong, though, one week after everything did.
Their national championship hopes dashed by Texas Tech--along with their 39-game home winning streak--the Sooners were out to spoil the same hopes harbored by the Wildcats (7-1, 4-1). They were off to their best start since 1999, after being picked to finish near the bottom of the Big 12.
Relying on a smoke-and-mirrors offense that had been consistently out-gained all season, Kansas State still managed to climb into the top 10 by taking care of the ball, protecting the quarterback, making sure tackles and not getting called for penalties.
Well, that all changed against Oklahoma's relentless pressure.
Collin Klein was sacked seven times, the Wildcats were penalized an uncharacteristic five times, normally reliable kicker Anthony Cantele missed a chip-shot field goal and a defense that had been assignment sound all season crumbled against Oklahoma's onslaught.
Kansas State actually led 17-14 midway through the second quarter, but the Sooners scored late in the half, and John Hubert's fumble with 19 seconds remaining allowed Michael Hunnicutt to kick a 53-yard field goal on the final play for a 23-17 halftime advantage.
It was the start of 44 straight points scored by the Sooners.
Broyles hauled in a 29-yard touchdown catch early in the third quarter, tight-rope walking down the sideline for the final 10 yards. Moments later, Jones hit Jaz Reynolds for the second of his two touchdown catches to give Oklahoma a 37-17 lead.
Finch added a 31-yard touchdown run later in the third quarter and the rout was on.
By the time Trey Millard slipped through the porous Kansas State defensive front and outran the secondary to the endzone for a 61-yard touchdown run with 11 minutes left in the game, a crowd of 51,004 that was in such a festive mood early in the afternoon had started for the doors.

Didn't see it in the article, but the radio announcers said he also broke the record for most TD passes at OU, Bradford had 88 and I think Landry ended up with 90, maybe 91?

90, with a real possibility of breaking 100.

The one-handed TD catch that Jaz Reynolds makes about 6 and a half minutes into this video is just incredible.

He had two one-handers on the same drive, including the TD.
BTW - sad news. The long-time OU play-by-play guy, Bob Barry Sr., passed away sometime Saturday night. He had just retired after this past OU basketball season. His last OU football game was the Fiesta Bowl vs. UConn.
I keep thinking about Mike Roberts, the "legendary voice of the Lobos" - who is still living, but is only a couple of years younger than Bob Sr. was. I hope Mike can hang on awhile longer. He really got the shaft from the current UNM A.D., and I've heard he isn't shy about saying so. Mike also used to have a ranch out by Mountainair that was just gorgeous.

Jaz is only a soph and he already looks like he's ready for the NFL. I know that looks can be deceiving, but that one-handed grab and a few of his other catches brought memories of T.O. and Randy Moss. Not saying he has their abilities, just saying that he has the potential to be that good. Just hope he doesn't have their character issues. Heck, if I were Landry Jaz would almost be enough to make me want to come back next year.

NORMAN, Okla. (AP) — Landry Jones threw two touchdown passes and Roy Finch and Blake Bell added short TD runs on consecutive possessions and No. 7 Oklahoma pulled away from Texas A&M 41-25 on Saturday.
However, that was only part of the story for OU, which lost All-America WR Ryan Broyles to a torn left ACL in the third quarter. He is out for the season. He had two catches for 87 yards and both helped set up touchdowns.
The Sooners (8-1, 5-1 Big 12) led just 13-10 at halftime, but Texas A&M (5-4, 3-3) had its second-half troubles continue — the Aggies gave up big second-half leads in its previous three losses.
The Aggies, headed for the Southeastern Conference, won't miss coming to Norman. They're now 0-7 on Owen Field during the Bob Stoops era; the previous six losses had come by an average of 41 points.
Jones threw third-quarter touchdown passes of 31 yards to Jaz Reynolds, who made a nifty one-handed grab — and 39 yards to Kenny Stills.
Texas A&M's seven third-quarter possessions produced four punts, two turnovers and a missed field goal. One punt, into the 30-mph wind, netted just 14 yards and set Oklahoma up at the Aggies' 31-yard line. On the first play, Jones hit Reynolds down the right side.
A&M's next drive ended with an interception by defensive end Ronnell Lewis, who caught a tipped ball and returned it 11 yards to the Aggies' 28. Finch scored five plays later. The Sooners needed one play to score after an interception by Jamell Fleming — Jones' long pass to Stills down the left sideline to make it 41-10.
Oklahoma was playing at home for the first time since its 39-game home winning streak ended with a loss to Texas Tech two weeks ago. The Sooners's potent offense struggled throughout the first half whether moving into or with the strong wind.
Going downwind in the second quarter, the Sooners needed 18 plays to cover only 58 yards on one drive. After three incompletions from the 21-yard line, they settled for a field goal and a 13-3 lead.
Texas A&M countered less than a minute later with the biggest gainer of the afternoon, a 79-yard touchdown pass from Ryan Tannehill to Ryan Swope.
Tannehill drifted left out of the pocket and bought time until finding Swope behind the defense about 35 yards downfield. Swope easily outran two defenders to the end zone.
In the first quarter, facing third-and-19 at the A&M 29 and moving into the wind, Oklahoma chose to punt. The ball was downed at the 1, and four plays later the Sooners forced a fumble at the 18. But they didn't fully capitalize and had to settle for a field goal.
Oklahoma's only first-half TD came on a 2-yard keeper by the 6-foot-6, 245-pound Bell, who ended the day with 11 carries, most in short-yardage situations, and two scores.

Hate to lose Broyles. I swear it brought tears to my eyes when I saw him on the sideline. He and Whaley played great this year and would have been a big help down the stretch.

You would be hard pressed to find a NCAA team that has been more affected by injuries over the past few years than OU. Not just injuries, but injuries at key positions.....
Adrian Peterson - collar bone Sam Bradford - shoulder (twice) Jermaine Gresham - knee (missed an entire year) Tom Wort - multiple concussions and other stuff Jamell Fleming - knee T. Lewis - broken foot Dominique Whaley - broken ankle (last week!) Ryan Broyles - ACL (TODAY!)
Not to mention......almost the entire O-Line year before last. That's what got Bradfords shoulder destroyed twice!
And those are just the injuries that I can remember off the top of my head. Probably more if I researched it in depth.
I know that injuries are part of football, but it just seems that OU has been particularly snake bit the past couple of years. Maybe Landry should consider declaring for the draft and getting out of OU after this season while he's still in one piece.

Don't forget, DeMarco Murray missed the BCS title game in early '09 with an injury, and he also didn't play in the '08 Fiesta Bowl. Murray's showing the NFL what the Sooners missed in those games. Jermaine Gresham's knees have cost his teams three probable titles. In high school at Ardmore High (also my alma mater, but I graduated in '76; Jermaine in '06), he got hurt in a playoff game when they were undefeated and just killing people. That also cost him his senior year in basketball, and they were the preseason favorites in Oklahoma Class 5A before that happened. They would have probably won at least one of those state titles at AHS, and I think a healthy OU team could have made a run in '09.

Actually it is going to hurt OU in the BCS standings according to many articles I read today. If LSU wins out and Oregon wins out it would be those two for National Title game. OU needed for OSU to be undefeated when they play so the win would count more towards strength of schedule. I am not smart enough to figure all of this out so I have to depend on the guys who know the system

I thought the same at first bgp but yeah it's going to hurt OU, would have been better for OU to give OSU their first loss. Means less if they beat a team that's already been beaten.

I was going by an article I read (not sure where) but said OU would be placed higher since they had the tougher schedule? Just like north and South here? LOL
